Parents of young children can learn ways to support their little ones’ developing minds during a series of workshops held by the City of Long Beach.

The Parent Informational Workshop series is designed to assist parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 5 by teaching them about different aspects of childhood development, such as speech and language development, managing behaviors and early start intervention. The workshop series also aims to connect children who are experiencing developmental delays to helpful resources and services.

This initiative is organized by the City of Long Beach’s Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) and the Long Beach Public Library (LBPL), and will take place at different neighborhood libraries.

“We are committed to supporting families and giving every child the best start in life,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a public statement. “By providing these workshops, we’re ensuring parents and caregivers have the tools they need to nurture their children’s development and build a brighter future for our community.”

In 2022, Long Beach received $500,000 to better connect families of children with developmental concerns to necessary services and resources over the course of three years. The Long Beach Health Department is currently in its final year of funding for this initiative.

These workshops will be led by local experts in early childhood development. Attendees are welcome to participate in multiple sessions. No registration is required.

This workshop series is part of LBPL’s Dive into Learning program, an early education initiative that prepares young children and their parents to learn and succeed as they enter school.

This workshop series was planned with the help of Help Me Grow LA, a partnership between First 5 LA and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
