As food insecurity increases across the nation, Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que is gearing up for a month-long fundraising campaign in September to help alleviate hunger.

The family-owned restaurant chain is headquartered in Signal Hill and has 21 locations across California, Nevada and Arizona.

In the past two years, Lucille’s has raised over $13,000 to benefit food banks through its annual “Day of Giving” fundraiser, and is extending the campaign in 2023 to the entire month of September.

“Hunger remains a critical concern for countless individuals and families in our communities,” said Joan Hansen, vice president of marketing at Hofman Hospitality Group, the parent company of Lucille’s, in a statement from Lucille’s.

“At Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, we believe in the power of collective action to create meaningful change. We believe our Hunger Action Month and Day of Giving fundraisers in September will make a consequential impact in helping those experiencing hunger and food insecurity,” Hansen said.

During September, Lucille’s will donate $1 of every order of Pumpkin Crunch Pudding to food banks. Additionally, they have partnered with Round It Up America to encourage both online and in-restaurant guests to donate their change to food banks.

Lucille’s has designated this year’s “Day of Giving” as Wednesday, Sept. 20. All dine-in guests will receive a $10 coupon when they order the Chicken Shack Plate, available only on Sept. 20 for dine-in customers, with 100% of the proceeds going towards food banks. The meal includes two pieces of fried chicken, a side of Texas Caviar, a serving of Pumpkin Crunch Pudding and a glass of Lucille’s Sidewalk Lemonade, for $8.99.
