A 34-year-old man accused in a series of crimes in Long Beach including an attempted carjacking, robbery and a shooting that critically injured a gas station employee was arrested, police said Wednesday, Feb. 3.
Frank Porras, of Long Beach, was taken into custody Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted second-degree robbery, attempted carjacking, second-degree robbery and criminal threats for a series of incidents in the early morning hours of Jan. 28, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
About 3:30 a.m. that day, police said they believe Porras attempted to burglarize a business in the 700 block of Redondo Avenue, but was unsuccessful and ran off before authorities arrived.
Officers were called shortly after to a gas station near Seventh Street and Redondo Avenue, where police said they believe Porras approached a man there and brandished a firearm while demanding the man’s vehicle, but ran off again before officers arrived, leaving the man unharmed.
About two hours later, officers were called to a gas station in the 3200 block of East Seventh Street, where an employee had been shot in the upper body, police said.
“Detectives believe the suspect entered and robbed the business, which escalated into the suspect shooting the victim,” police said. “The suspect then fled the scene on foot prior to officers arrival.”
The injured man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Porras is being held on $1.05 million bail, jail records show.
