Long Beach police arrested a suspect on Tuesday, Feb. 1 after a woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a man posing as a driver for a ridesharing app.
Demetrio Estrada, a 29-year-old from Compton, was charged with one count of kidnapping to commit rape and one count of assault with intent to commit a felony sex crime.
Sex Crimes detectives began investigating the case in August 2021 after a female adult victim reported that a man posing as a rideshare app driver in a 2006 Silver Honda Civic picked her up near a bus stop in the area of 1st Street and The Promenade before driving her to a separate location and sexually assaulting her.
Police said Estrada was identified as a suspect through information gathered by detectives. Detectives presented this information to the District Attorney’s Office, who issued an arrest warrant for Estrada.
Police said Estrada was arrested and booked into the Long Beach City Jail, where his bail was set at $1.1 million.
LBPD detectives believe Estrada routinely visits entertainment districts in Long Beach and are encouraging any additional victims to come forward.
