A man might have suffered a medical emergency prior to his death in a car that crashed in Long Beach Thursday, authorities said.

Officers were sent to the 2300 block of East 70th Street, west of Paramount Boulevard, at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday “regarding a single vehicle traffic collision,” according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Upon arrival, officers found a male adult driver unresponsive inside a 2010 Dodge Charger,” police said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the victim as 62-year-old Dean Jones.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver … may have suffered a medical emergency which resulted in a loss of control and subsequently collided with a wall,” police said. “At this time, speed, impaired driving and distracted driving are not considered to be factors in the collision.”

Anyone who might have witnessed the crash was urged to call Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800- 222-TIPS, or use the website www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
