Man fatally shot inside Long Beach residence

A man was fatally shot in his home in Long Beach, and an investigation was underway Wednesday, police said.

Officers went to the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue at about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday on a report that a person had been shot, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim inside his residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body,” police said in a statement.

“Officers rendered medical aid and attempted life-saving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel,” police said. “The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

Information on the man’s identity was not immediately available.

Through their preliminary investigation, homicide detectives determined that the victim was inside his residence when he was shot. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The motive for the shooting was under investigation.
