The dead body of a man found in Long Beach in February has yet to be identified.

On Feb. 14, Long Beach police were sent to the LA River bed under the Pacific Coast Highway Bridge, where they found the body of a man who had been stabbed in his upper body.

Police said the man lived at a nearby homeless encampment. Authorities were unable to identify the man, but the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) states that his first name may possibly be Robert.

The man is described as being 5 foot 9 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. He had a scar on his outer right wrist and two tattoos on his inner left wrist. His tattoos appear to depict a Yin Yang symbol and Arabic writing.

According to the Bureau of Justice, approximately 4,400 unidentified bodies are found in the United States each year, and at any given time there are approximately 40,000 unidentified bodies across the nation.

Anyone who may know the identity of this unknown man is encouraged to call the Long Beach Police Department at (562) 570-7260, the LA County Coroner’s Office at (323) 343-0512, or NamUs at (919) 485-5632.
