A man was hit by a truck and killed while crossing a street in Long Beach, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers were sent to Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male pedestrian … who had been struck by a vehicle, laying in the street,” police said in a statement.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

“The preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Chevy Silverado driven by a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway towards Orange Avenue when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing Pacific Coast Highway against a red light,” police said.

“It is unclear at this time if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when the collision occurred,” police said. “The driver of the truck remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, distracted driving, (or) impairment are not believed to be a factor in this collision.”
