A man was killed on the night of Sunday, Aug. 12 in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
At approximately 8:30pm that day, officers were dispatched to the area regarding a possible shooting.
Once on scene, officers gathered information indicating the victim and the suspect had been involved in an altercation. Officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred. Both the suspect and the victim fled the scene prior to officer arrival.
Shortly thereafter, in the immediate area, officers located a male adult who had been struck in the upper body by gunfire. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded and determined him deceased on the scene.
The LBPD indicated that the suspect is likely a male adult Hispanic, but a motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation remains ongoing.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
