The Conservation Corps of Long Beach Gateway Cities Charter School will honor its 2014 graduating class on Thursday, Sept 25. The group includes 57 young adults age 18 to 25 years old who have completed the requirements to earn their high-school diplomas.
The graduation ceremony will take place at 6pm at The Grand, 4101 East Willow St. The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony will be Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia.
The graduates, for various reasons, have delayed completing their education, and they include: young mothers returning to school; young men and women helping to support themselves, their children and families; those taking care of family; and those who want to correct past mistakes from their early teens, according to the school. While some of the graduates plan to enter the workforce after graduation, many also plan to continue their education by attending college or advanced training now that they have their high-school diplomas, according to the Conservation Corps.
The ceremony will also recognize 21 young adults who have been awarded a 2014 scholarship from the Conservation Corps of Long Beach Scholarship Program to further their education and training.
