When local voters head to the polls for the California General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 8, they will not only be electing the nation’s next president, but also choosing from among various candidates to represent them on the United States House of Representatives, the State Senate, the State Assembly and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The Signal Tribune has attempted to reach all the qualified candidates for those four governmental bodies to give them the opportunity to share information about themselves and their platforms by responding to the prompts below. This week, we are focusing on the two candidates for LA County Board of Supervisors District 4. (Although we published responses from all the candidates for the United States House of Representatives and the State Assembly last week, we were unsuccessful in securing replies from candidates for the State Senate.)
Californians have until Tuesday, Nov. 1 to request a vote-by-mail ballot. Returned ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls are open on Election Day from 7am to 8pm. Those interested may find their polling place by calling (800) 345-VOTE (8683) or visiting sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place.

Goals if elected/platform
There are many issues affecting Los Angeles County. On the Board of Supervisors my priorities are as follows:
1. I will focus on upgrading the Ports of L.A. and Long Beach to create new economic opportunities and good-paying local jobs, reduce air pollution and ensure that our region remains competitive in the 21st Century economy.
2. I will make reducing homelessness among families, children and veterans a top priority by streamlining and coordinating the County housing, mental health services and drug treatment programs.
3. I have been a leader in fighting to reduce crime and gun violence in our neighborhoods. On the Board of Supervisors, I will expand after-school and job training programs, strongly support a ban on military-style assault weapons and work to prohibit people on the no-fly list from buying a gun.
