Power 4 Youth, an academic mentoring program for middle school students, will host a no-obligation information meeting for prospective volunteers on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30pm at Neighborhood Christian Fellowship, 9603 Belmont St., in Bellflower, one of the five community sites the program operates.
Power 4 Youth is requesting men in the community to mentor at-risk youth for one and a half hours each week. Each mentor meets with a student, one-on-one, at a Power 4 Youth site, assisting with academics while building a caring, consistent relationship. Free training and support is provided for all mentors throughout the year.
“Mentoring provides youth facing adversity with someone who cares about them, shows them that they are valued and assures them they can achieve their highest potential,” said Samana Budhathoki, match supervisor. “Currently, we have a long wait-list of boys who are seeking male leadership, support and guidance in their lives. These young men need and deserve a mentor and a role model with a story and experience to grab them by the hand and lead them to success. As we get closer to the end of the school year, students realize that they need help. Now is the time to sign up to help our youth thrive— not only in school, but in life, in general.”
