Metro and Caltrans will host a community meeting at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) on Monday to inform the public about upcoming investments aimed at enhancing mobility, safety and air quality in communities along the I-710 corridor, which includes Long Beach.

This meeting is part of a series aimed at informing the communities along the I-710 corridor about early stages of the Long Beach-East L.A. Corridor Mobility Investment Plan. The plan will outline funding and projects for 18 cities and unincorporated communities spanning from Long Beach to East Los Angeles.

Metro and Caltrans said in a public statement that they have engaged with various stakeholders, including residents, environmental justice organizations, educators, public health advocates, unions, businesses and elected officials along the I-710 corridor since 2021.

Together, they formed a task force to identify strategies aimed at improving the quality of life along the corridor. Now, the draft investment plan is being shared with the public, according to a public statement released by Metro.

In addition to the in-person meeting on Monday, Metro and Caltrans will host an online community meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13. To register for the online meeting, click here.

During these meetings, residents will learn about recommended projects in the draft investment plan, including the following:

  • Enhancing zero-emission truck infrastructure
  • Streamlining freight and goods movement
  • Improving arterial roadways
  • Fostering job creation
  • Implementing community programming
  • Upgrading transit access and services
  • Adopting an approach to prioritizing projects that will center the needs of the community

These initiatives will focus on transportation needs and facilitate the reconnection of communities previously divided by the I-710.
