The Long Beach Shakespeare Company opens 2008 with Shakespeare’s most popular comedy, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’
The lush forest fantasy is said to be filled with magic, music, love and laughter. A delight for the eyes and ears, sets and lighting were the work of Brian Koehler, who creates magic in the intimate space of the Richard Goad Theatre, and with music adapted and composed by Edmund Velasco, who expands on Mendelssohn’s original music.
Directed by Helen Borgers, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ features many of the company’s repertory of actors, including Dan Flapper as Puck, who also played Sam Spade in LBSC’s 2007 production of “The Maltese Falcon,” and Melissa M. Miller as Titania, whose recent roles include Effie in “The Maltese Falcon” and Kate in “The Taming of the Shrew.”
Performances take place Feb. 15 through Mar. 29 at The Richard Goad Theatre, located at 4250 Atlantic Avenue, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and $10 for students. Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended.
