Miller Children’s Hospital continues 50-year tradition of presenting newborns in holiday stockings to their families

For more than 50 years, babies born between Dec. 21 and Dec. 25 at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach have been bundled and given to their families in giant holiday stockings, as the hospital’s special way of celebrating with families and welcoming their “precious gifts” into the world.
In keeping up with the tradition, the MemorialCare Center for Women at Miller Children’s and Long Beach Memorial wrap newborns in warm and fuzzy stockings to reveal to parents and families in the nursery.
Rated one of the safest places to have a baby by the state of California and Fit Pregnancy Magazine, the Memorial Care Center for Women at Miller Children’s and Long Beach Memorial delivers more than 5,500 babies each year.
“I have helped put babies in stockings for more than 30 years now, and I absolutely love this time of year and being able to give our families their newborns in stockings,” said Marilyn Rodriguez, RN, director of clinical operations, MemorialCare Center for Women. “It makes our families so happy, and all of our nurses love giving families their babies wrapped in stockings.”
