“The Latin-American Parade & Festival is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the incredible talent, enthusiasm and commitment of these Latino leaders,” said Garcia. “We’re very excited about this year’s marshals and know they’ll be an outstanding representation of Long Beach.”
The Molina Family has been a fixture in Long Beach for more than 30 years. The family founded Molina Healthcare with the mission to help the uninsured, non-English speaking, or low-income receive healthcare. Involved in the local community and active in charity work, they’ve been deemed an asset to Downtown Long Beach and the city of Long Beach.
Local artist Gregorio Luke is an expert on Mexican and Latin-American art and culture, having served as the director of the Museum of Latin American Art, consul of Cultural Affairs of Mexico in Los Angeles, and the first secretary of the Embassy of Mexico in Washington D.C.
Last July, Garcia and the DLBA called for marshal nominations, inviting members of the public to submit names of outstanding and deserving individuals with a high level of dedication to the Latin-American community and to the citizens of Long Beach.
The marshals will participate in the event on Sept. 10, which will kick off at 3pm with a parade that starts at Pine Avenue and 6th Street and ending at 4th Street and The Promenade. There, the Festival will include arts, live music, performances, dancing, authentic Latin-America cuisine, a children’s activity area and more.
