Johnson has partnered with B.A.R.K. (Beach Animals Reading with Kids), a volunteer program that encourages children to increase their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Students often find it intimidating to read in front of classmates, but, with the help of B.A.R.K., children increase their reading skills, self-confidence, and class participation, according to a press release issued by Johnson’s office.
We Harte B.A.R.K. takes place the fourth Saturday of each month at Bret Harte Library. Children of all ages are welcome.
