Morry’s of Naples has announced their ongoing series of wine classes in “The Backroom” wine and cheese bar during July and August this summer. Classes are hosted by L.A. county’s only master sommelier Elizabeth Schweitzer, who is also the only female master sommelier in Southern California and one of only 15 women in the world to hold the prestigious and hard-to-earn title.
Schweitzer teaches both “newbies” and the “well seasoned” wine adventurers with her insightful, informative and entertaining wine classes, covering everything from the history of wine itself to sensory evaluations that include blind tastings. Schweitzer wants students to forget labels and price points and to focus instead on the wine itself.
For each class, students taste about six different wines from Morry’s stock, focusing on the subject of the class to give participants an inkling of the depth of choices and flavors available. To set off the tastings, each week participants are served a series of delicious seasonal appetizers created by chef Cinthia Madrid of “The Backroom.”
Schweitzer’s forte is education. She teaches classes, hosts dinners and consults at several restaurants in Southern California. She maintains an active profile in the wine community, donating a considerable amount of time for events and non-profit fundraising. She also writes for the monthly newsletter for The Original Wine of Month Club (www.womclub.com) with more than 15,000 members reading her wine reviews each month.

Sunday August 10
“Sipping Through Summer.” Taste cool and refreshing wines to break the heat.
Sunday August 17
“Tuscan Treasures.” Explore this romantic region and the delicious wines made there.
Sunday August 24
“Blind Tasting.” Learn to identify and appreciate wine without knowing price or label. Prizes available.
