A helmetless male rider on an off-road motorcycle died Saturday, June 19 when he crashed into an SUV in a Long Beach intersection.

The crash occurred about 1:40 p.m. at Long Beach Boulevard and Wardlow Road, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 23-year-old Long Beach woman was making a left turn from southbound Long Beach Boulevard to eastbound Wardlow when she was struck by a 2006 Yamaha YZ450F motocross motorcycle northbound on Long Beach Boulevard.

The RAV4 driver remained at the scene, cooperated with officers and was released pending further investigation, police said.

Arriving officers provided first aid to the motorcycle rider until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash but DUI and distracted driving are not believed to have contributed, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective K. Myers or Detective S. Loughlin at 562- 570-7355.
