New mosque in Signal Hill site of Muslim holiday celebration

[aesop_image imgwidth=”500px” img=”http://www.signaltribunenewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/EXT-CAP-Mosque-1.jpg” credit=”Photos by Denny Cristales/Signal Tribune” align=”center” lightbox=”on” captionposition=”center”] The Long Beach Islamic Center (LBIC) hosted a Muslim religious celebration of sacrifice known as Eid al-Adha on Thursday, Sept. 24 at its newly built mosque located at 995 E. 27th St. It is a custom to provide gifts to children during the festivities, and Tarek Mohamed, chairman of the LBIC, provided money— $5 for younger children and $10 for adolescents— in order to allow the kids to buy presents for themselves.
The LBIC has received its occupancy permit from the City of Signal Hill, and the center will have its grand opening in mid October.
