The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association (BKBIA) created this mini park to provide another public gathering space in the business district, according to Blair Cohn, executive director of the BKBIA.
“We are always looking for new ways to put the ‘there’ there along our corridors,” Cohn said. “This space welcomes residents and passersby to stop for a minute to rest, talk, read or even have lunch. We found the perfect opportunity to create public space on private property with the cooperation of George Captanis of Georgie’s Place. We have other projects similar to this lined up that will help change the landscape a bit in the district.”
During the art walk, 8th District Councilmember Al Austin and the Knolls Ranger mascot were on hand to open the pocket park, which is located at 3850 Atlantic Ave., between Willmore Wine Bar and Georgie’s Place.
The grand opening also featured the Bixbyland Brass Band, Super-Sized Ring Leader, Sussex Clown, the Duke of Bixby Knolls, Pastor Danny Bradfield and wife Ginger and cupcakes for all attendees.
Future elements of the park will include tables for playing checkers or chess and an art piece in the center of the grounds, Cohn said.
