Nike and The Bixby Knolls Strollers are working together to bring Nike+ technology to the Saturday morning walking group. At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, the Bixby Knolls Strollers will host the Nike+ Mobile Unit, a van staffed by Nike Running reps and equipped with the latest Nike product. At this special event, walkers will have the opportunity to test out Nike footwear and Nike+ technology on their walk (photo ID required to borrow product). Walkers are encouraged to arrive at 7 a.m. to allow plenty of time to check out shoes and technology.
Participants will have a chance to try out one of four different styles of Nike+ ready footwear, as well as the Nike+ SportBand or the Nike+ iPod system, technology which allows runners to get real-time feedback on their distance, pace, time and calories burned while they run. Walkers will also have the opportunity to become members of the world’s largest running club at nikeplus.com, a global running community where Nike+ members can log their run data, track their progress, utilize training tools, and connect with other members all over the world. In addition, Nike will offer special one-day-only promotions on nike.com to those who attend.
The Nike+ presence at the August 9 Bixby Knolls Strollers meeting is part of Nike’s efforts to generate excitement for Nike+ Human Race— the world’s largest one-day running event. Nike’s first global race will take place over the course of one day, August 31, with a goal of one million runners, across 25 cities and featuring 25 top musical acts. Los Angeles’ race will take place at the L.A. Coliseum and feature Kanye West. Participants will be able to run for a cause, as Nike will donate a portion of the funds raised to three Nike+ Human Race beneficiaries: WWF’s Global Climate Change Project, Lance Armstrong Foundation’s LiveStrong initiative and the UN Refugee Agency’s ninemillion.org campaign. The race will be open to anyone, anywhere. With the help of Nike+ and the Nike+ SportBand, every city and every road can become a race-day course. For more information, visit nikeplus.com.
The Bixby Knolls Strollers event is free and open to the public. Participants may register for the Human Race at the event, or anytime at nikeplus.com.
The Bixby Knolls Strollers meets every Saturday morning at 7:30 at It’s a Grind, 4245 Atlantic Ave. Its purpose is to promote health, fitness, and fellowship among Bixby Knolls residents in the Long Beach community. For more information, contact Blair Cohn at Blair@bixbyknollsinfo.com.
