Dr. Helen Caldicott, physician, speaker and author, will be giving a free lecture entitled “A New President, Nuclear Policy & Earth’s Future” at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach, 241 Cedar Avenue, on Sunday, October 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session and reception.
More than 20 Long Beach and Southern California-based groups are supporting this lecture on nuclear policy and its direct connection to the future of the Earth.
Debates on nuclear power and nuclear weapons are now in the spotlight in our presidential campaigns, affecting the future of energy independence, global warming, foreign policy, terrorism and nuclear non-proliferation.
Caldicott, co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility, helped start similar groups in countries all over the world and their umbrella group International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.
