The Friends of Hollyhock House in Los Angeles will host “Through the Lens of Pedro E. Guerrero: Frank Lloyd Wright,” an evening of film, food, art and architecture. The fundraising event honors Guerrero as one of the great documentary photographers of the twentieth century.
Guerrero is best known for photographing the work and lives of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, sculptor Alexander Calder, and abstract expressionist Louise Nevelson. Proceeds from the event will fund curatorial and educational programs at Hollyhock House.
Frank Lloyd Wright trusted Guerrero to document and illuminate his life and work. Guerrero went on to not only create iconic photographs of Wright, Calder and Nevelson— but also to photograph celebrity homes, art, and architecture for magazines such as Architectural Forum, Architectural Record, Fortune, Redbook, Harper’s Bazaar, House & Garden, and Collier’s.
The evening’s festivities include: a screening of the documentary film Pedro E. Guerrero, Portrait of an Image Maker, by Suzanne D. Johnson, founder and executive director of Gnosis, Ltd., a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve and present the significant creative contributions of individuals who have changed our world; a conversation led by Kathryn Smith, an architecture historian, preservation consultant and author of numerous publications including Frank Lloyd Wright; docent-guided tours of Hollyhock House and a rare opportunity to view images, some vintage from Guerrero’s private collection; complimentary signed copies of Guerrero’s memoirs Pedro E. Guerrero: A Photographer’s Journey; and a hosted reception in the Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park with Guerrero, filmmaker Johnson and architecture historian Smith.
The event will take place at 6pm on Friday, Jan. 16 at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
