The City of Long Beach is asking the public to assist in creating a vision plan for Scherer Park in North Long Beach by taking an online survey by Feb. 7.

If and when funding becomes available, the vision plan will guide future improvements to the park.

Scherer Park spans 26 acres in North Long Beach, between Long Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.

Scherer Park was founded in 1944 by developer Lloyd Whaley and the Home Investment Company. The park originally measured 11.14 acres, but was extended after the City added adjacent parcels of land to the park between the ‘40s and ‘80s. In 2001, Scherer Park was reduced by 2.6 acres in order to make room for the construction of a police station.

Those who take the survey will be asked to identify their zip code and race before answering the following questions:

  • What is your main purpose of visiting the park?
  • What time of the day do you usually visit this park?
  • How often do you visit Scherer Park?
  • What general improvements would you like to see made at Scherer Park?
  • Is getting here convenient?
  • How do you typically get to this park?
  • What facilities at the park do you use the most?
  • What is your favorite thing about this park?
  • What are your priorities for improving the park?
  • Who should we be most mindful of when redesigning this park?
  • What are you willing to do to help improve Scherer Park?

Those who complete the survey will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card.
