Open call for photos, stories: Curley’s Cafe in Signal Hill

One of the oldest operating businesses in Signal Hill is Curley’s Cafe which given the two pumpjack oil rigs in the parking lot still harken back to its days as the premier spot for local roughnecks to get their breakfast before or a cold beer after their shifts. Over the next few weeks, the Signal Tribune will be highlighting some of the longest-standing local businesses in Signal Hill as part of the city’s 100th anniversary.

The first business to receive a deep dive is Curley’s Cafe, the homestyle diner that’s been providing beer, pancakes and burgers to the community since 1932.

With a history as rich as Curley’s, we’re sure our readers have their own stories and memories of Curley’s to tell, and we want to give you the chance to reminisce and honor the city’s oldest business. Maybe you’ve been coming to Curley’s since you were a kid, or maybe you found it on your own and never looked back … whatever your experience is, we want to know.

Please send in your photos, stories and menu recommendations of Curley’s Cafe to the Signal Tribune by May 2 at 8 a.m. for a chance to be featured in our deep dive, and keep an eye out for other historical businesses we’ll be covering.

Entries should be sent to newspaper@signaltribune.com no later than May 2 at 8 a.m. with the subject line “Curley’s Cafe.”
