A man apparently lying on a street in Long Beach was hit by a car and killed, authorities said Wednesday.

Officers were sent to Studebaker Road and Spring Street at about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Information on his identity was not immediately available.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was laying in the roadway, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a 2007 Honda Civic that was being driven by an adult resident of Long Beach,” police said in a statement.

“The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. “At this time, neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.”

Anyone with information about the death was urged to call police at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
