Pedestrian killed in Long Beach hit-and-run; suspect surrenders

A 65-year-old man walking on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach was struck from behind by a vehicle before sunrise Wednesday and killed and the driver surrendered to police after fleeing, police said.

Lamar Maxwell was fatally injured at about 5:25 a.m. at Pacific Coast Highway and Ohio Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Maxwell was walking in the eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway when he was struck, police said.

Cher Srey, 55, of Long Beach, fled but later turned herself in at the Signal Hill Police Department, police said. Srey was taken to Long Beach City Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and released.
