Hopefully as the “June Gloom” begins to burn off, it will encourage residents to spend more time outdoors exploring Signal Hill and Long Beach.

A quick walk through your neighborhood, adventurous hikes beyond the city and our local parks all have something in common—the guarantee of seeing nature’s flighty friends.

For the next two weeks, we’ll be accepting photos of all the colorful, diverse bird species in and around the city.

A trip to the El Dorado Nature Center can bring you face-to-face with the famed black-crowned night heron and plenty of waddling ducks, while an afternoon in your backyard will surely result in some hummingbird sightings.

If you want some help identifying some of the birds in the area Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine has a handy common birds gallery available on their website.

Send your best bird pictures to our email Newspaper@SignalTribune.com or our Instagram page @SignalTribune. All entries will be published from now through June 29.
