The pilot of a small aircraft sustained minor injuries on June 18 after the plane crashed on the perimeter fence at Long Beach Airport (LGB).
The single-engine Beechcraft was resting on the fence when Long Beach firefighters reached the pilot, according to Jacob Heflin, public-information officer for the Long Beach Fire Department, who issued a press release on the accident the same day.
The pilot was transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation and treatment, Heflin said, adding that a second individual driving a vehicle nearby was struck by debris caused by the incident. The driver was examined by paramedics and did not require further medical treatment.
The aircraft accident caused a small aviation fuel leak that firefighters controlled, and it did not pose a hazard risk, Heflin said.
The incident occurred on southbound Lakewood Boulevard, approximately 300 yards south of Conant Street.
Soon after the accident, the airport resumed normal operations.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
On June 24, Stephanie Montuya-Morisky, airport public affairs officer for LGB, told the Signal Tribune that there was no further information available.
“The NTSB is investigating the incident,” Montuya-Morisky said. “They usually complete the investigation in about a year.”
