Police investigating fatal shooting in North Long Beach

On Feb. 22 at approximately 4:22 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 6900 block of Paramount Boulevard after at least one report of a person down in a parking lot and a report of gunshots heard in the area, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from multiple gunshots to his upper body. Officers began rendering life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect approached the victim in a business parking lot and fired multiple gunshots directly at him before fleeing the area in a sedan.

“At this time, no suspect information is available, and the exact motive for the shooting is unclear; however, it does appear to be targeted,” police said.

The victim was identified by police as Miguel Rodriguez, a 41-year-old resident of Walnut Park.
