The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is investigating a motive and suspect in the Sept. 8 killing of a male adult at the 500 block of Rhea Street, according to a recent LBPD press release.
The department dispatched officers to Rhea Street that Saturday, at approximately 2am, to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with “a person down” call, according to police.
When officers arrived, they located the victim, who had been struck in the upper torso by gunfire, on the sidewalk in front of a residence. The Long Beach Fire Department pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and make notification to next of kin, according to police.
There is no suspect information available. A motive or whether the shooting is gang-related is unknown and remains under investigation.
