More than 80 incidents of vandalized windows were reported throughout Long Beach last weekend into Monday night, according to police. At approximately 9:30pm Monday, Feb. 2, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) started receiving reports of vehicle and business windows being shot out with a BB gun around the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 8th Street, according to police. Within an hour, the LBPD began receiving additional reports of similar activity around the East Division Naples area.
“Detectives and a crime analyst are still vetting through all the vandalism reports that were taken within the city since Jan. 31,” said LBPD Sgt. Megan Zabel in an emailed response to the Signal Tribune Wednesday. “We expect that number to keep rising and hope to have a specific number by the end of the week.”
Zabel said detectives have gathered several surveillance videos, which will also take time to view, to determine if any of the video actually captured the suspect(s). “As soon as we can identify a suspect or a suspect vehicle, we will release it via news release,” she said.
Based upon the preliminary investigation, the suspect vehicle is described as a four-door black or blue Honda Civic with a spoiler and chrome tail pipes.
Those whose windows have been vandalized in Long Beach or those with any information regarding these incidents are urged to contact the LBPD at (562) 435-6711.
