As of last week, the list of candidates included Kellogg, U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions and former Defense Intelligence Agency director Gen. Mike Flynn, according to the Washington Post.
The media outlet also reported earlier this year that Trump has assembled a team that includes Kellogg and that Sessions chairs to counsel him on foreign affairs.
Kellogg’s family all have Long Beach ties.
His brother, Jeff, served on the Long Beach City Council as 8th-district councilmember from 1988 to 2000 and continues to serve on the Long Beach Community College Board of Trustees. His other brother, Mike, is an L.A. County Superior Court Judge, and his sister, Kathie, is a clinical psychologist, according to LBReport.com.
The general has served two tours in Vietnam and was commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division. During his military career, he earned the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star and several Bronze Stars. Following his Army retirement, Kellogg held positions with a number of defense and national security-related firms.
The story is still developing as of press time.
