Storyteller Productions has partnered with the Library of Congress and the Bay Shore Branch Library on a Veterans History Project to document the stories of U.S. veterans and citizens involved in the war efforts.
Storyteller has arranged to be an active participant by donating video services to record interviews of veterans talking about their time in war and how their lives have been influenced by those events. Storyteller and the Library of Congress are now looking for veterans and other persons involved in the war efforts who wish to tell their stories.
During the Veterans Day Holiday, November 8—11, Storyteller is hosting an Open House event at the 2nd Street storefront where veterans and their families can drop in and make arrangements for their stories and photos to be recorded. Refreshments will be provided and sample videos can be viewed. With an immediate priority on archiving the stories of WWII veterans, the project will include U.S. veterans from all wars. Filming can be done simply and easily at the home of the interviewee, at the Storyteller storefront or other public locations, such as community centers or at the Bay Shore Branch of the Long Beach public libraries.
The mission of the Veterans History Project is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. The interviews and items donated (if veterans wish to donate photographs, memoirs, diaries, or letters) are housed within the permanent collections of the Library of Congress. Stories and memorabilia are available to you, scholars, students, and anyone else visiting the library. A website is created for each veteran who contributes an interview, memoir, or historical documents. The webpage includes service history and other information about each veteran, and the interviews and documents will be digitized and viewable online. Storyteller provides complimentary copies on DVD to each veteran that participates in the project.
