On Saturday, Sept. 26, Comprehensive Child Development, Inc. (CCD) will be celebrating its 25th year of encouraging successful children and self-sufficient families. A celebration will take place at the James Benedict Child Development Center, 2565 Pacific Avenue, from 6pm to 9pm, with a formal program at 7pm. Tickets are $50 per person, and the attire is business casual. The open house-style event will allow guests to drop in to tour one of CCD’s preschools while enjoying food, music and a silent auction. This is no sit-down dinner with stuffed chicken and stuffed shirts!the flavor will be Cajun, in honor of the 23-year connection between CCD and the Long Beach Bayou Festival.
Long Beach Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga is the honorary chair for the event. Her daughter, Rosalinda Montoya, now 26, was one of the early students at CCD. Reyes Uranga will be presented with CCD’s Community Leadership Award for her many years of involvement in community organizations and her caring concern for improving the lives of the children and families she represents.
CCD’s Founder Award will be presented to Phyllis Levitt, Ph.D., who founded CCD in 1984 and served as its first executive director until her retirement in 1991.CCD’s President’s Volunteer Service Awards will be presented to individuals and families for volunteer hours earned during a 12-month and/or over the course of a lifetime.
Comprehensive Child Development, Inc. (CCD) provides Early Childhood Education and care for families with young children ages four months to kindergarten in the Southern California areas of greater Long Beach, San Pedro and Wilmington. CCD’s focus is low-income households, including many single-parent families. If not for affordable (free or low-cost) child care provided by the agency and funded through public and private sector grants, many of the parents in the programs would be forced to remain on or return to welfare.
