Project seeks to provide needy children with holiday books

Miss Long Beach 2011, Monique Villa, is seeking help from the public to collect Christmas books for needy kids in Long Beach, for a drive called Project Give-A-Book. The books will be given to impoverished and hospitalized children as special gifts for the holidays.
Suggested titles include: Corduroy, Corduroy’s Christmas, A Christmas Carol, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Sam The Clam by Nathan Lyon, How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, The 12 Days of Christmas Anniversary Edition: A Pop-up Celebration, The Night Before Christmas by Peter Paul and Mary and The Polar Express.
All children’s books in new condition are welcome. The book drop-off location is Apostrophe Books, 4712 E. 2nd St., which is extending a 10-percent discount on all books (including those already discounted) that are purchased for Project Give-A-Book.
Each child recipient will decorate his or her own rendition of the Project Give-A-Book logo. These will be uploaded to the project’s website after the holidays.
Volunteers will be personally delivering and reading books to children at Miller Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 21, followed by a second delivery to Lydia House that evening.
