The Community Grants Program is a more than $65 million initiative to support projects to assist residents who are most vulnerable to port-related environmental impacts. Projects include expanding asthma services, controlling stormwater runoff by building permeable parking lots and making open space buffers between port operations and communities.
According to the Port, this program is the biggest voluntary port mitigation initiative in the country, and they are planning $2.3 billion in capital improvements aimed at enhancing capacity, competitiveness and sustainability over the next 10 years.
As of Jan. 2, $50.6 million has been committed to the Community Grants Program.
