Rancho plans summer of fun with music, more

Rancho Los Cerritos and its historic gardens offers educational tours of the historic house and gardens, plus special events for children and adults throughout the year. And, now that summer has arrived, things are really heating up. The following is compilation of just a few things going on at the Rancho this summer.
Rancho Retreats, offered the first Fridays in July, August and September from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., provide the perfect environment to nourish the soul, quiet the mind and replenish energy with a stroll through the lush grounds or a nap under the canopy of evergreens. Spend a leisurely afternoon playing board games, painting, reading or journaling.
Tables, chairs and board games will be available, and complimentary refreshments will be served. Admission for the Rancho Retreats is free.
The free summer concert series will take place the fourth Thursdays in June, July and August from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the tranquil gardens with friends and family while feasting on a picnic dinner and listening to an eclectic, multicultural mix of musical entertainment.
All concerts will take place in the back yard of the 1844 ranch house under a canopy of historic trees. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Gates to the garden open by 5:15 p.m. and the house will remain open for the self-guided tours during the concerts.
Come back on Thursday, July 26, for the fiery Celtic sounds of Sligo Rags, nominated for Best Folk Act by the 2006 Southern California Music Awards. The group’s upbeat, energetic collection of acoustic musicians and vocalists are sure to move listeners with their strong vocal harmonies and engaging performance.
The final concert on Thursday, August 23, will feature original music by Nueva. The dynamic South American folklore compositions of the group are the musical stream of the constant renewal of the soul.
The Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site is located at 4600 Virginia Road.
