Sons and daughters are invited to treat Mom to a docent-led tour of the historic gardens at Rancho Los Cerritos for Mother’s Day, to enjoy colorful and fragrant spring blooms such as Star of Madeira and flowering fruit trees while exploring the gardens’ many layers of history and their wide variety of plant materials.
First planted by John “Don Juan” Temple in the 1840s, the gardens and grounds reflect over 100 years of change. Participants can explore the landscape with a docent-led tour, offered the Second Sunday of each month through November. Tours are free and are offered on the half-hour between 1pm and 4pm. The next tour will take place on May 9.
Rancho Los Cerritos is located at 4600 Virginia Rd., northwest of the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and San Antonio Drive.
