Residents will get the opportunity to exercise while enjoying local history during the 9.4-mile annual Ranchos Walk organized by Walk Long Beach, Rancho Los Cerritos, Rancho Los Alamitos and the Historical Society of Long Beach. The hike will take participants from Rancho Los Alamitos to Rancho Los Cerritos, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sep. 10.
The walk will begin at Rancho Los Alamitos, and participants are encouraged to use the IZI Travel app as they follow the winding 9.4-mile path through Long Beach and Signal Hill. The app will help to guide participants on the correct route and play audio recordings that teach users about local history as they walk through the cities.
Registration will take place at Rancho Los Alamitos and then take participants to the CSULB campus, through Reservoir Hill, Hilltop Park in Signal Hill, Willow Springs Park and then finish at Rancho Los Cerritos.
The full route is 9.4 miles, but there are also 6-mile and 3.5-mile routes starting from Reservoir Hill and Willow Springs Park. Registration and start times vary for each route and will be marked by chalk and signs.
Those who participate will earn Rancho merchandise and “Rancho bucks” that can be redeemed at participating restaurants.
Participants are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing, and to only sign up for the walk with members of their own household.
Once participants get to Rancho Los Cerritos, they can partake in a celebration where they can tour the historic grounds and gardens of the Rancho, listen to actors dressed in period-accurate costumes share historical facts, and purchase food and drinks.
