On June 19, the Signal Tribune asked readers if they recognized the people or remembered the event that took place in the photo above. Local resident Gloria Stacy Burrows phoned in, saying:
If the girl in the plaid dress on the right isn’t me then I have a twin sister I didn’t know existed. Who else but me would allow her mother to brush her hair into little corkscrew curls everyday! This is obviously a tree-planting ceremony and should be at Los Cerritos Elementary School in the 1940s. The woman in the white coat appears to be Mrs. Marie Yandell, the fifth-grade teacher. The man may or may not be Mr. George Geiger, who, in the 1940s, became our principal. I went to kindergarten through eighth grade at Los Cerritos Elementary.
I still live very near the school, which is rather revolting, isn’t it?
