The Friends of Willow Springs Park (FWSP) has announced its lineup for this year’s Willow Springs Experiences, taking place on six Sunday afternoons in the fall beginning Sept. 22.
FWSP is responsible for upholding and strengthening Willow Springs Park as a place of environmental significance in Long Beach.
Each event is free and will cover a specific subject such as indigenous music, local history and environmental photography, while relating to the park’s habitat.
The full list of 2024 Willow Springs Experiences is as follows:
Sept. 22 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Healing in the Park with Carol Bartels: This workshop will revolve around nature’s healing presence and all of the ethereal well-being it offers.
Sept. 29 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Photography in the Park with Victoria Bryan: Local photographers can unplug for an afternoon as they stroll around the park’s terrain and capture ecological beauty from behind the lens.
Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – History in the Park with Larry Rich: Long Beach Sustainability Coordinator Larry Rich will dive into Willow Springs’ extensive history, including its geological significance as well as who and what has resided there.
Oct. 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Drawing in the Park with Angela Willcocks: Bring your desired drawing materials, as well as paper or a notebook, and take artistic inspiration from the surrounding environment. Hats, water and chairs are also encouraged for this experience.
Oct. 20 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Music in the Park with Martin Espino: “Ancient Homelands,” the music of North, Central and South American indigenous communities will be the soundtrack for a serene afternoon in the park.
October 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Words in the Park presented by Audipoeta: Closing out the 2024 Experiences series is an invitation to unwind, recenter and just be.
Willow Springs Park is located at 2745 Orange Ave. For all events, attendees will meet up in the parking lot of the park prior to its start. Reservations are encouraged for the Willow Springs Experiences and accessibility information can be found by emailing WSPExperiences@gmail.com
