From now until July 7, residents can vote on their favorite of four designs for the new Belmont Shore welcome sign.

The Belmont Shore Parking and Business Improvement Area Advisory Commission unveiled the new designs at a meeting in April. The neighborhood has been without a sign since removing its “Belmont Shore Welcomes You” sign in 2022 due to termites wearing down the wood.

The Belmont Shore Parking Commission will pay for the new sign through its Parking Meter Fund.

The four designs offered in the survey all sit atop a 1920’s-style lamp post that will be about 20 feet high and include illumination, according to city documents. Options for the sign slogan include “Welcome to Belmont Shore,” “Belmont Shore Welcomes You” and “Belmont Shore,” in red, white and blue text options.

One of the options is a call-back to the old design, simply on top of a lamp post rather than on the ground. Another option honors the neighborhood’s ties to the beach with the ocean, sand and starfish around the sign.

A red-lettered option goes for a more minimalist, modern design with the LED letters floating with no background. A white-lettered sign features Art Deco styled-letters commonly used in Long Beach in the 1930s. Both signs can substitute other colors, the survey says.

Residents are asked to rank each of the designs after viewing a rendering of what it would look like from a street view. There is also an option to choose “none of the above” as the top choice.

Residents can submit their email in order to receive updates on the new sign. Here is a link to the city’s survey
