“I am honored to have my colleagues’ confidence to serve as our city’s vice mayor,” Richardson said. “I accept this as a recognition of our entire community’s progress since [I took] office two years ago. I look forward to working with Mayor Garcia and each of my fellow councilmembers as we continue to build a better Long Beach.”
First District Councilmember Lena Gonzalez, who had nominated Richardson, released a statement after the voting took place.
“I was proud to nominate my friend and colleague, Rex Richardson, for vice mayor,” Gonzalez said. “Rex has done an outstanding job turning north Long Beach into one of the most active areas in the our city and has been a strong voice for working men and women in this city. I am looking forward to working alongside him to continue to move Long Beach forward.”
Sixth District Councilmember Dee Andrews, who has just begun his third term, was also nominated for the title.
