At approximately 7am on Sunday, April 10, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) crews responded to a fire at the restaurant. First arriving crews found 10- to 15-foot flames coming from the roof, and a third-alarm response was called for immediately, according to LBFD Fire Captain Mark Miller.
The fire was knocked down in approximately 45 minutes, Miller said, adding that the bulk of the fire was in the attic.
During an insurance inspection Wednesday morning, the Signal Tribune spoke in person with one of the owners of the restaurant. She declined to provide her name but said she received a call from the fire department at 7:38am Sunday.
“I turned off my phone when I got home [Saturday night], so when the fire department called me, I couldn’t get the message until the next morning about 9:00,” she said. “I turned on the phone, and then I heard it.”
The restaurant was in business but vacant at the time, according to Miller. Fire investigators are still determining the official cause of the fire.
In total, 16 fire crews responded with 64 firefighters.
