Second annual bike fest to get rolling down Retro Row

Spanning three days, from Friday, May 7 to Sunday, May 9, the 2nd Annual Long Beach Bike Festival is part of the ongoing efforts to make Long Beach one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the U.S. For the first time, 4th Street/Retro Row (between Cherry and Junipero avenues) will be part of the program, hosting its own family-friendly event, 4th Street In Motion, on Mother’s Day, May 9, from 11am to 5 pm.
The First Annual 4th Street in Motion festival will showcase alternative
transportation- and bicycle-related activities along the 4th Street corridor. The street will be abuzz with activities including a bike-themed film festival and independent film competition (at the newly renovated Art Theatre), plus a music stage featuring local/national bands and deejays, performing artists, food & retail merchants, a wine & beer garden, and more.
In addition, Luther Burbank Elementary School will host a full schedule of kids activities and exhibits, including safe cycling workshops, do-it-yourself
bike repair, and a host of other educational and fun activities for the
whole family.
The Cyclone Coasters, vintage bike enthusiasts, will be on hand displaying
their classic bikes, and the Long Beach roller-derby team The Retro
Rollers will be doing what they do best.
Burbank’s “Garden of the Mind” project, which funds school projects based on celebrated botanist Luther Burbank’s green philosophy, will be the major recipient of event donations and proceeds of 4th Street In Motion. “Garden of the Mind” focuses on innovating education and community through the permanence of heritage, the wisdom of art, and the science of sustainability.
