Discovery Well Park seemed to be the perfect location for last Saturday’s pancake breakfast at the “Foothill Club.” Hosted by the Signal Hill Historical Society, the event featured a variety of presentations and displays about the city’s rich history, including a collection of photographs and artifacts about Signal Hill’s most notable figures from the past as well as detailed information about the oil industry.
Society members and other volunteers dressed up and played the roles of such characters as: the real Foothill Club’s owner Bonnie Price; Signal Hill’s Jessie Nelson, one of the first female mayors in California; aviation pioneer Earl Daugherty; and theinfamous boxer and local business owner Tod “Kid Mexico” Faulkner.
