The 9th Annual Shakespeare Festival, with two Shakespeare classics, continues on the front lawn of Long Beach Aquarium.
This weekend is the last chance to see Romeo & Juliet, which closes July 15. The, on Saturday July 21, The Comedy of Errors begins a four-weekend run. Performances for both productions take place each Saturday and Sunday evening.
The events are free to the public and include pre-show festivities beginning at 6 p.m.; the performances start at 6:30 p.m. and run approximately two hours.
The summer performances take place on a two-level Elizabethan stage near the entrance to the aquarium. Audience members can bring a picnic dinner (coolers are allowed) and a blanket or sand chair. Picnic tables also are available.
This is the first year the Long Beach Shakespeare Company has participated in the Long Beach Sea Festival. The Long Beach Shakespeare Company was established in 1990 as a nonprofit theatre arts organization.
For the last eight years the company has produced the annual summer festival. The company performs during the year at its Richard Goad Theatre in Bixby Knolls.
