SHPD arrests man on felony assault charges

The Signal Hill Police Department (SHPD) arrested a man Tuesday after a standoff that day that lasted several hours, according to police.
Around 4:25pm that day, the SHPD received a 911 call regarding an aggravated assault at a specific address in the 2300 block of Cerritos Avenue. Officers arrived and located a victim with non-life threatening injuries. The victim, whose gender the SHPD has not specified, was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The suspect and victim are known to each other, police said. The suspect remained on scene and inside a perimeter that officers had established. He refused orders to surrender himself to officers, police said, and, because he was armed with a weapon, the department requested assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau.
After approximately three hours, the suspect exited the property, peacefully surrendered to officers and was arrested. He will be booked for felony assault charges.
